House Gecko Care Empty
PostSubject: House Gecko Care   House Gecko Care I_icon_minitimeThu Feb 07, 2013 4:59 am

I made a personal caresheet with a little mixed info from the net. nainspire lang ako habang pinapanood ung paradise snake ko kumain ng butiki haha!

This care sheet will apply to all local species of house geckos except tokay gecko.

House Gecko Basic Overview:

Size/Length - 3 to 6 inches
Feeding Habits - Omnivorous/Opportunistic Feeder (90% animal matter 10% plant matter) small lats, winged ants, spiders, chopped SW, small amount of cooked rice, tawgi and mashed bananas are readily eaten.
Sexing - Males: produce sounds, larger and longer body, bulging tail base near cloaca. in some species, males have body markings and sometimes big, rounded patches that looks like a lump may appear in the neck just behind the ear. Females: doesn't make sounds, duller and plain coloration, shorter and stouter body with big belly area, flattened tail base near cloaca, eggs are sometimes visible when viewed underneath.
Lifespan: 2-7 years

Housing: a 2.5-gallon aquarium is suffice for 2 geckos making sure that it is 1 male and 1 female or 2 females. never house 2 male house geckos together. make sure there are lots of branches and artificial/live plants that can climb or hide to avoid seeing your gecko sticking to the cover or sides of your tank. provide at least 1 hiding spot.

Substrate: leaf litter, coco peat, sphagnum moss, gravel, sand, colored paper

Temperature: room temperature. it can tolerate air-conditioned temps for short amounts of time.

Humidity:70-95% relative humidity but providing a moist substrate and placing a small water dish is enough to keep them hydrated.

Lighting: avoid using UV lighting to prevent burns but direct morning sun is highly appreciated.

Geckos are prolific egg-layers usually laying 2-4 eggs in a secluded spot, 2-3 times a year but young should be separated once hatched to avoid being eaten.

in 5 years time may breeding colony ka na Very Happy
