ever wondered why your lizard substrate stinks so bad?

i just read and confirmed the use of bio-active substrate on my own enclosures for almost 2 months now and i have to say it works. never pako naglinis ng enclo or nagpalit ng substrate since then so more or less 2 months. i needed to confirm kasi muna kung gumagana o hindi. i can remember the days na araw-araw ako nagpapalit ng newspapers at nagsa-spot cleaning for my pet's crap. now those days are over.

Bio-active means that you have transformed your substrate into a living microorganism ecosystem.

Stuff you need:

- old substrate from your inverts (kung may 'good mites' mas better, preferrably coco peat)

- crushed but not powdered charcoal

- fine sand

- gravel

- garden soil / bark chips / leaf litter

- 1 small/medium earthworm (2 kung nasa 15 gallons up)

- 1 superworm or 2 mealworms (3 kung nasa 10 gallons up ang tank)

- 1 or 2 pcs of lats or dubia nymph (3 kung nasa 10 gallons up)

mix 1 part or sand, 1 part gravel, 1 part old substrate, 1 part crushed charcoal, 1~2 parts of old substrate and 2~3 parts of garden soil.
pat and settle it down then add all the critters. mist lightly afterwards. in 48 hours operational na ang pagiging bio-active ng substrate mo.
notice the reduction or elimination of smell. the only odor that you'll smell is yung amoy kahoy or coco peat.

works well with lizards and snakes (except LG kasi malambot balat)

p.s.

do not worry kung maging beetle ung mga SW/MW di naman nila basta basta kayang kagatin ang scales ng mga reptiles no. if hindi ka mapakali edi alisin mo lang ung beetles and replace it with new larval SW/MW

kung naghuhukay siya wag. or you could eliminate the gravel sa formula. dinagdag ko lng un kasi nakakatulong siya sa skin shedding ng snakes.

may exceptions kasi. pwede sila makalunok ng kahit anung biodegradeable or anything smooth na pwede nila ipass-out easily or aka idumi nila. rough and big particles lang naman ang nakaka-cause ng impaction.

natural lang naman kasi for lizards ang kumain ng pebbles minsan dahil it aids in their digestion. wag lang oras oras o araw araw nila gawin

pwedeng dry or moist. ang importante kasi ung mga microorganisms sa substrate na magmananufacture ng waste products sa enclo mo. laki kaya ng natipid kong dyaryo, substrate, effort at oras nung nadiskubre kong pwede pala to hehe
