South Utah and Nevada and Western Arizona Habitat: Forest areas, deserts but also agricultural areas Size: up to 130 cm Life Expectancy: over 15 years Reproduction: 5-10 eggs. Incubation period at 28°C approx. 60-70 days. A short resting period at 10-15°C is recommended for breeding. Temperature: air temperature between 25-28°C, local heat spots up to 33°C. Night setback to about 20-23°C. Humidity: 50-60% Lighting: Daylight fluorescent tubes Substrate: loamy soil with rock structures or grit.. Cage Furniture: hideouts, stones, roots among other things climbing facilities, a small flat water bowl. Planting is possible (Aloe sp., Euphorbia sp. etc.) Terrarium Size (for long term care): Minimum requirement 1x0.5x0.5 (LxWxH) of the overall length of the animal for one pair. Incubation period at 30°C about 60-70 days. Temperature: air temperature between 25-28°C, locally up to 33°C. Night setback to about 20°C. Humidity: 40-50% Lighting: Daylight fluorescent tubes Substrate: loamy soil with rock structures. Cage Furniture: hideouts, stones, roots among other things climbing facilities, a small flat water bowl. Planting is possible (Ficus benjamina, F. pumila, Scindapsus etc.). Food: depending on its size; eggs of canaries, budgerigars or European quails Comment: If the problem with the food supply has been solved the Dasypeltis scabra is as a rule an easy to tend animal.

More cage substrate should be used for filling as this species likes it to dig itself in. Cage Furniture: Climbing facilities, various hiding places and a water container make up the basic configuration of the terrarium arrangements. Food: Small rodents (freshly born mice and rats), eats also lizards, their eggs and small snakes
