| STEPS:1. How is your spider acting? Tarantulas may get lethargic and stop eating before they molt. Some species even change colors! 2. Is your spider moving? Tarantulas often stop moving or don't move at all to conserve energy before a molt. 3. Is your tarantula eating? Before a big molt, tarantulas will stop eating for extended periods of time, ranging from a few weeks to a couple of months. 4. What position is the spider in? During a molt, a tarantula lays up-side down on their back to get out of the old skin easier. TIPSAlways make sure your tarantula has a shallow dish of water in his/her cage. Do not put a cotton ball, sponge, or "water gel" in a tarantula's water dish, the first two are highly unsanitary and the last is completely useless to your tarantula. A healthy tarnatula absolutely will not drown in a properly sized water dish. Wait about 6 weeks before getting worried about your pet This information generally applies to rose-hair tarantulas, but is appropriate for most other species. If your tarantula is scrunched up tightly, they are either dead or were very frightened by something. WARNINGSDo not feed your tarantula during a molt. During this stage, a cricket could do considerable damage to a molting spider. Do not touch/help your spider; you could accidentally harm her/him.
